Myer pockets Kasson cash

KASSON, Minn. -- The O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series made their season debut at the Dodge County Speedway on Sunday night, and with more than a dozen caution flags for crashes, mechanical failures and failed starts, Tommy Myer was right where he needed to be to avoid all of it.

The Blooming Prairie, Minn., crowd pleaser started on the pole for Sunday's 35-lap main event of the 5th Annual Minnesota Spring Fling, and he never relinquished the lead.

While Myer pocketed $2,000 and captured his first checkered flag of the 2006 season. Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon, Iowa, also recorded his best finish of the 2006 campaign with a second-place showing after executing a late-race pass of seven-time defending O’Reilly USMTS national champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa.

Clear Lake, Iowa's Al Hejna nabbed his third top-5 finish in the last four races with a fourth-place finish while Mike Sorensen of Rochester, Minn., rebounded from an early tire problem to capture the fifth spot.

The final night of five straight Memorial Weekend races for the O’Reilly USMTS wraps up on Monday, May 29, at the Pritchard Family Auto Stores Hancock County Speedway for the Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar Memorial Day Shootout, and the final O’Reilly USMTS show of the 2006 season at the popular Britt, Iowa, facility. Monday's event will pay $2,000 to win.
