Kinder KO’s Featherlite Fall Jamboree field Chad Kinder in victory lane Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway.

Kinder KO’s Featherlite Fall Jamboree field

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- At the 2005 Featherlite Fall Jamboree, Chad Kinder was dominant on Friday night as he took off from his pole position and built his advantage to a full straightaway before a flat tire ended his hopes of a probable win.

Saturday night at the Deer Creek Speedway, Kinder again had the luck of the draw and started on the pole, but this time his luck didn't turn sour as he led the final 34 of 40 laps en route to a $6,000 victory and his first triumph at the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval in Spring Valley, Minn.

After failing to qualify for the main event on Friday night, Kinder raced to a victory in his heat on Saturday and led the 32-car, three-wide starting field to the green flag.  It was Clear Lake, Iowa's Mike Hejna, however, who made noise first as he secured the top spot and led the first six circuits before relinquishing the lead to Kinder. From there, Kinder held off more early-race challenges from Hejna and Canadian Steve Arpin, then went unchallenged over the last half of the race.

While Kinder pocketed $6,000 to take back to Newton, Ill., all 32 main event starters earned at least a $1,000 payday.

Despite a whopping 92 entries on Friday and 90 on Saturday, Kinder and Quincy's Mark Burgtorf are the only drivers on the roster from the State of Illinois. Burgtorf earned $4,000 on Friday night with his miraculous back-to-front victory, giving the Prairie State pilots a sweep of the first two days of action at the 8th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

Seven-time O’Reilly Auto Parts United States Modified Touring Series national champion Kelly Shryock of Fertile, Iowa, finished in the runner-up spot for the second straight night, earning $5,000 and bringing his two-day total take to $8,000.

Mike Sorensen of Rochester, Minn., finished third, while Arpin slipped from second to fourth during the last handful of laps. Hejna held on for a fifth-place finish. Friday's winner, Burgtorf, was sixth; Les Duellman of Winona, Minn., finished seventh; Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, took eighth; Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minn., raced from the 22nd starting spot to finish ninth; and Watertown, S.D.'s Jon Tesch rounded out the top-10 across the finish line.

The Olympic Fire Protection Hard Charger honors went to Tim Donlinger of Rochester, Minn., who started 26th and finished 11th.

Zack VanderBeek of New Sharon, Iowa, failed to finish Saturday's Holley "A" Main, but continues to lead ‘The Hunt’ for the O’Reilly USMTS National Championship (741 to 721) over Shryock. Tesch is third with 707 points, Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie, Minn., sits fourth with 692 points and Sutton, neb.'s Jason Friesen is fifth with 679 markers. Drivers in ‘The Hunt’ will have one more chance to improve their weekend points totals as O’Reilly USMTS drivers score points for their best night only during the three-day Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

Opening night at the 8th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree was rained out Thursday and postponed until tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 24) beginning at 3 p.m. and featuring O’Reilly USMTS Modifieds, WISSOTA Street Stocks and Hornets. A field of 24 cars will start the O’Reilly USMTS main event, which carries a $2,000 top prize and $250 to start. Sunday's show will also feature the $2,000-to-win Non-Qualifiers "A" Main for drivers that have raced all three days. Tickets for Thursday's rain-out will be good for Sunday.
