Trick no treat: Practice now Thursday, racing Friday-Saturday at Summit USMTS Southern Nationals

We wish we could control the weather, but alas... with between one and two inches of rain yesterday and last night, the conditions are simply not suitable for racing with over 200 cars tonight (Thursday) at the Kennedale Speedway Park for the inaugural Summit USMTS Southern Nationals.

With a forecast of sun and wind during the day today, crews are already working on the track and we will host a practice session tonight from 6-9 p.m. but the pit gate will not open until 5 p.m. as we need every every minute to dry out the pits but just no way we can open then and get 200+ cars registered and be done in time for curfew.

So... the Summit USMTS Southern Nationals is now a two-day event on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3. All times and pricing for the next two days remain the same. Practice tonight is $20 for the pits and free for the grandstands. We will run two heats in each class Friday to set the starting fields for Saturday.

We are just an hungry to race as the drivers and fans are, but Mother Nature always has the final word. We've seen what happens when tracks try to force the issue and host a mud-fest. It makes for a sloppy track, sloppy show and expensive for the racers.

USMTS Modifieds will still pay $10,000 to win and $800 to start. Limited Mods are $5,000 to win and $350 to start while Factory Stocks will pay $5,000 to win and $300 to start.

Thanks for understanding and hope to see you tonight for practice and/or Friday and Saturday more some spectacular racing.

With more than 200 of the toughest dirt track racers in the nation expected to converge on the quarter-mile clay oval in Kennedale, Texas, fans seeking that final fast fix before winter arrives will see some incredible action both days with crucial qualifying events on Friday followed by last-chance races and main events on Saturday night.

Fresh off of his 19th Annual Budweiser USRA Fall Nationals win at the Southern New Mexico Speedway this past weekend, reigning USMTS national champ Johnny Scott comes into the event with the Summit USMTS Southern Series points lead as he looks to cap off a dream season with another victory and another title.

But first he’ll have to deal with several others fighting for a final spot in the Summit USMTS Southern Series final top ten in points include Stormy Scott, Dereck Ramirez, Joe Duvall, Zack VanderBeek, Jake O'Neil, Logan Robertson and Zane Ferrell.

Johnny Scott is a two-time USMTS winner in Kennedale with both victories coming in 2013. The series returned in 2017 with VanderBeek walking away with the winner’s check and earlier this year Ethan Dotson snagged his first-ever USMTS victory here after a legendary fight to the finish with Rodney Sanders.

Meanwhile, the driver roster in all three divisions screams talent.
