COMP Cams to sponsor new USMTS Engine Builder of the Year Award & racer contingency program

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) announced today that they have formed a new marketing partnership with COMP Cams — The Absolute Leader In Valve Train Performance.

As part of their support during the 2008 racing season, COMP Cams will offer a three-pronged program which will benefit both drivers and engine builders participating in both the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour and O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series.

The newly-created COMP Cams Engine Builder of the Year Award is the first of its kind in the 10-year history of the USMTS, and will recognize the engine builders whose dedication and hard work propel the USMTS Modifieds around America's finest dirt ovals.

“There are many people involved in making a driver a winning driver with the USMTS,” said USMTS president Todd Staley. “Thanks to the support from COMP Cams, this is a great way to shine the limelight on one of the groups of unsung heroes in our sport.”

USMTS officials will soon announce a points system whereby all engine builders of USMTS drivers will gain exposure through the program, with the year-long program recognizing the top five points earners in the COMP Cams EBotY at season's end. Drivers and/or engine builders may register at no charge for the program. Call 515-297-3835 or email media@usmts.com for more information.

Drivers displaying COMP Cams decals will also benefit from the support of COMP Cams, with awards earmarked for the top three finishers in each of the four O’Reilly USMTS National Tour regions, as well as the O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series. The top five in national points at the conclusion of the Casey's General Stores Hunt for the USMTS National Championship will also be recognized.

For the icing on the cake, COMP Cams will also be a cash contributor to the points fund for both the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour and O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series.

“We’ve watched this series grow by leaps and bounds over the last several seasons and couldn’t be happier to finally have the opportunity to get involved,” said COMP Cams Marketing Director Chris Douglas. “We know that the USMTS drivers are among the best modified racers in the country and we plan to work closely with them as we seek to continuously make our products better. The COMP Cams engineering team has spent a lot of time developing camshaft designs specifically for dirt modified racers and I would encourage USMTS engine builders to give us a call to see how we can help their program.”

For more than 32 years, the COMP Cams mission to produce the highest-performing products possible, provide customers with superior service and to lead the industry in technological development has never changed.

Headquartered in Memphis, Tenn., COMP Cams employs the industry’s largest and most highly trained engineering staff, and the most sophisticated manufacturing processes and test equipment in the world. The integration of research, engineering and development at COMP Cams consistently proves itself by out-performing the competition.

For the fifth straight year, the O’Reilly USMTS National Events campaign will kick off with a doubleheader at the state-of-the-art Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb. The 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw is slated for Friday and Saturday, March 7-8, 2008. Friday’s event will pay $2,000 to win while the victor in Saturday’s main event will pocket $3,000. More than 70 entries are once again expected for the annual lidlifter at the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval.

The O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series season will start on Friday, April 18, at Golden Triangle Raceway Park (formerly Motorama Speedway) in Beaumont, Texas, and move over to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, on Saturday night, April 19.

The USMTS is celebrating its 10th Anniversary Season in 2008 with many special promotions to show thanks to the fans, drivers, team members, families and sponsors who have helped make the USMTS the premier dirt modified series in the nation.
