Final USMTS East Region race Sept. 21-22 at Freeport


WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Sept. 10, 2001) - The United States Modified Touring Series will try for the 3rd time to get the race in at the Freeport Raceway Park in Freeport, IL. The series was in Freeport in May for a three-race swing when cars were just getting ready for hot laps when the rain set in and put a halt to the racing for this night. This race was rescheduled for August as the series was scheduled to visit Canton the night before. About 6 pm in August the rain set in again putting a stop to the racing for the second time. USMTS was scheduled to race in Freeport in September so we will try it once again. This race has been made into a two-day show. The top eight drivers will be locked into the Saturday A-main. On Friday drivers will run heat races and B-mains to get the top twenty cars will run an A-main qualifier. This race will pay $500 to win with all twenty cars being guaranteed $100 to start the qualifier. The top eight drivers will start straight up from Friday’s finish. Also running on these two nights will be the late models, hobby stocks, pure stocks, and sportsmen classes along with the modifieds. All classes will race for an increased purse. A good field of cars is expected for this race the last race in the east region for the USMTS. Mike Chasteen form Creve Coeur, IL holds a 22 point lead over Jason Hughes form Colcord, OK. Kelly Shryock is in third 85 points from Chasteen. Some of the expected drivers for this race are: Chasteen, Shryock, Hughes, Bruce Hanford, Kevin Peters, Tommy Myer, Tim Donlinger, Mike Delozier, Rick Hixson, Mark Noble, Marty Thompson, Jeff Larson, Mike Garland, Scott Holbert, Ryan Dolan, Robbie Verbeck plus many more. The gates will open at 5pm with hot laps scheduled to start at 7pm and racing at 7:30. For more information feel free to call the USMTS office at 515-832-7944.
