USMTS releases revised 2008 schedule
WEBSTER CITY, Iowa Officials from the United States Modified Touring Series released a revised (and hopefully final) schedule of events for the 2008 racing season today.
We've got a very solid schedule put together for the fans in 2008, said USMTS president Todd Staley. Since releasing our preliminary schedule in early February, we have had to make some adjustments due to weather, logistics and, unfortunately, politics.
Among the notable changes are:
Originally scheduled for July 4, the OReilly USMTS National Tour event at the Murray County Speedway in Slayton, Minn., has been moved to Wednesday, July 23. The event was previously slated to take place at the Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, but USMTS officials were informed that the promoter under contract with the fair board would not allow the event to be scheduled. NASCAR fan favorite Kenny Wallace and other to-be-announced NASCAR drivers will be appearing for the first time ever at the Murray County Speedway show on July 23.
The event at the Belleville (Kan.) High Banks has been moved back one day to Monday, Aug. 11. The U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., will be the site for the Aug. 12 event. Both shows feature both Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader in action with the OReilly USMTS National Tour title-chasers in the Casey's General Stores Hunt for the USMTS National Championship.
Out of respect for two nearby county fair races near Independence, Iowa, the inaugural OReilly USMTS National Tour event originally scheduled for July 24 at the Independence Motor Speedway has been moved to Tuesday, June 10. The Kasson (Minn.) Speedway will now host the mud-slinging Modified masters on Thursday, July 24, with the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, getting the Tuesday, July 22, slot.
The Thursday, July 3, race at the Cresco (Iowa) Speedway has been moved to Thursday, May 22.
For the OReilly USMTS Southern Series, the 2nd Annual South Texas Nationals will remain on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-22, but the venue will now be at the exciting Texana Raceway Park in Edna, Texas.
