Shryock returns to Mayetta winners circle with Kansas Spring Fling triumph

MAYETTA, Kan. — Kelly Shryock returned to the O’Reilly USMTS National Tour winners circle Sunday as he captured the 6th Annual Kansas Spring Fling at the Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kan. It was Shryock's sixth career win at the high-banked 4/10-mile clay oval, and his first since March 19, 2005, when he won his fifth straight.

Shryock avoided several mishaps throughout the 25-lap main event to put himself in position to wrestle the lead away from Watertown, S.D.'s Jon Tesch with six laps to go. While Shryock secured the $2,000 top prize, Tesch had to settle for the runner-up paycheck for the second straight night. With two races in the books, Tesch has led 58 of 65 laps in the two main events.

Justin Boney finished third while Steve Kosiski came from 12th on the 24-car starting grid to take fourth. John Allen rounded out the top-5 finishers. Sixth through 10th went to Dustin Boney, Greg Skaggs, Josh Reisch, Johnny Bone Jr. and Al Hejna.

Several drivers had their chance at victory snatched away during crashes early on in the Holley "A" Main, including Mo-Kan Region points leader Jason Hughes and defending USMTS National Champion Jason Krohn. Hughes dropped to eighth in the Mo-Kan Region standings while Shryock gained the top spot in both the Mo-Kan and Great Plains Region rankings with his win in the season's only dual-region race.

The O’Reilly USMTS National Tour campaign picks back up next weekend with a doubleheader at the state-of-the-art Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., for the 5th Annual Nebraska Spring Thaw. Slated for Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, 2008. Friday’s race will pay $2,000 to win while the victor in Saturday’s main event will pocket $3,000. Gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday, with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 7. On Saturday, gates open at 12 noon with hot laps at 2:30 and racing at 4. In the event of a cancellation either day, we will not race on Sunday due to the Easter Holiday. Discount coupons are available on race day at Casey's General Stores locations in York and Geneva.
