Jason Hughes garnered his fifth O’Reilly USMTS Southern Series win of the season Friday night with a victory at the Monticello Speedway in Monticello, Ark. The veteran from Westville, Okla., hustled past polesitter Jack Sullivan to lead the third lap, then paced the remaining 27 circuits to pocket the $2,000 top prize and his first Southern Speedweek checkered flag. …

Patient and calculating, Zack VanderBeek has been a model of consistency this season. The 23-year-old from New Sharon, Iowa, has racked up eight top-5s and ten top-10 finishes in 17 starts this season, and Sunday night he finally put a digit in the win column with a thrilling victory at the Quad City Raceway in East Moline, Ill. …

First trip to LaSalle nets first win of 2008 for Hejna

The O’Reilly USMTS National Tour invaded the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Ill., for the first time Saturday, for the inaugural Frostbuster. Originally slated for April 12, the rain-delayed event saw Al Hejna of Clear Lake, Iowa, lead all 35 laps of the main event, which was stopped short of the scheduled 40-lap distance when rain began to fall on the speedway after 35 orbits. …
