Scott returning to Modified roots with USMTS, ARMS

New Mexico native Stormy Scott is looking forward to getting back to his racing roots in 2025. He has moved the home base of his racing operations to Amarillo, Texas, with a focus on returning to Modified racing.

“I’ve had a lot of fun in the Super Late Model ranks over the past several years, but the time has come for me to turn my focus. I’m currently shifting my attention back to where it all started for me in the Modified ranks,” Scott shared. “Everybody knows that Super Late Model racing has gotten really expensive, so it’s a factor, but honestly it’s not the biggest factor in me making this change.

"I’ve spent a lot of time away from home the past several years, and I’m looking forward to being home more with my wife, Ashley, and my stepdaughter, Zoe. Modified racing within a six-hour radius of our home in Amarillo gives me countless options to race throughout the year while sleeping in my own bed a lot of nights.”

While Scott has relocated from Kentucky to Texas, any Category 5 Race Cars clients needing equipment, repairs or support can still get what they need at Jason Durham’s shop in Kentucky.

Turning over a new leaf with his return to Modifieds also gives Scott a chance to finally work with a great friend.

“Cade Dillard and I have been good friends for a long time, and I’m excited to finally get to race one of his CDR Race Cars. He’s a sharp dude and has a great product, and this is cool to see it all come together.”

Scott plans to run a mixture of events with the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt as well as the USRA American Racer Modified Series and other regional and local events close to his Amarillo home.

Next on Scott's schedule is King of America XIV set for March 27-29 at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., The weekend includes a $3,000-to-win program on Thursday, a $5,000-to-win event on Friday and up to $20,000 to win on Saturday evening.

Scott claimed the coveted King of America crown in 2012, which was worth $15,000 at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., en route to claiming the USMTS Rookie of the Year title that season.

He has 48 career USMTS triumphs—good enough for sixth on the all-time wins list behind Kelly Shryock (182), Jason Hughes (158), Rodney Sanders (121), Ryan Gustin (103), Zack VanderBeek (51).

Stormy Scott thanks his marketing partners which include Mesilla Valley Transportation, Penske Shocks, CDR Race Cars, Stoen Race Engines, American Racer, Real Racing Wheels, Wehrs Machine & Racing Products, Midwest Sheet Metal, FK Rod Ends, Swift Springs, Winters Rearends, Wilwood, Schoenfeld Headers, Performance Bodies, Behrents, QuickCar, MSD, Brucebilt, Rancho Milagro and MyRacePass.com Marketing Services.
