Sanders heads into Three-Day USMTS Swing on Top
BUTLER, Mo. (August 20, 2025)- The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt will head into Missouri this weekend with three nights of racing at tracks unfamiliar to the USMTS drivers. USMTS action will kick off at the Electric City Speedway in Butler, MO for the first time ever and this will be a fantastic race with a great crowd expected for the first ever visit on Thursday night. Friday night it has been 21 years since the USMTS visited Callaway Raceway in Fulton, MO and once again this ¼ mile bullring should keep fans on the edge of there seats. The series will finish the weekend on Saturday at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO as the last race was won by Ricky Thornton Jr in 2017.
Leading the charge is points leader Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, who's gunning for his sixth national title and looking to add to his staggering 127 career USMTS wins.
With three completely different ovals, hefty purses and fierce competition, this week promises heart-pounding action for dirt track fans.
Kicking off the blitz on Thursday, August 21, the Electric City Speedway in Butler, MO hosts the Inaugural Missouri Summer Showdown. The third-mile semi-banked dirt oval offers $3,000 to the winner and $400 to start. Also running will be the Iron Man Stock Cars racing for $1,200 to win, USRA B-Mods (National Points), and Midwest Mods/E-Mods. Gates will open at 5pm with Hot laps slated for 7pm.
Electric City Speedway is a 1/3 mile semi-banked dirt oval located at 5634 NE County Rd 3, Butler, MO 64730. For more information check them out on Facebook at Electric City Speedway.
The Callaway Raceway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked dirt oval located at 7419 County Rte. 405, Fulton, MO 65251. For more information, check them out on Facebook at Callaway Raceway.
It has been 21 years since the Summit USMTS presented by RacinDirt stars and cars have visited this speedway. And this event should provide fans with some great side by side racing action. This is one of those ¼ mile speedways that always provides great racing action and get the USMTS drivers all together on this tight speedway will do exactly that. None of the USMTS locals have probably raced at the Callaway Raceway so the slight edge should go to local favorites. This will be another must see show on Friday night August 22. This race will be another $5,000 to win main event paying $600 to start.
To make things even crazier, The Iron Man USRA Stock Cars will also be on hand racing for $1,200 to win first place prize and so far this season 13 different winners in 15 races tells you exactly how tough the competition is in this series. Derek Green from Granada, MN is the point leader in the series that has averaged more than 35 cars per event this season. Local POWRi classes will also be racing Friday night.
The Scotland County Speedway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt oval located at State Hwy 15, Memphis, MO 63555. More information can be found on the tracks Facebook page at Scotland County Speedway.
The last time the drivers of the Summit USMTS presented by RacinDirt visited Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO it was Ricky Thornton Jr taking the checkered flag. 35 Cars were on hand that night and if I was to guess, once again not many of the USMTS regulars have even seen this speedway. The racing at Scotland County Speedway should be great as this track is smooth and provides great racing action. The Fairboard has done a great job hosting events at this track and once again great weather forecasted should see great attendance. This race will also pay $5,000 to win with each starter guaranteed at least $700. Also racing will be the Iron Man Stock Cars again this series on this great track should provide some edge of your seat racing action and the USRA B-Mods racing against all the local favorites with Scotland County track rules allowed. USRA National points will be awarded on Saturday Night August 23.
Sanders, 35, leads the points standings with 2,153 points and six wins this season with precision honed since his first USMTS victory in 2009.
Hot on his heels is one of the hottest drivers Tanner Mullens Wichita, Kansas with 2,025 points and three wins.
Jim Chisholm Osage, Iowa is sitting third with 2,006 points and one four wins, Chisholm always a threat to get the job done. Brother Joe who came off a big weekend in Minnesota also proved he is worthy of getting the job done and sits fourth in the standings with three wins this season and 1836 points.
Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., holds fifth with 1,835 points and four wins, Strickler was the last winner in USMTS action topping the field at the Lucas Oil Speedway in early August.
