United States Modified Touring Series goes NASCAR-style racing for a night
ALLISON, Iowa (July 13, 2001) - The United States Modified Touring Series will try something new and exciting for fans on August 14th at the Butler County Speedway in Allison, IA. The USMTS will have a 75 lap Simpson Race Products A-main that will pay at least $2500 to win. At first we wanted to try a 75 lap no fuel stop race. That has changed, as now USMTS will have a pit stop on lap 40. Drivers will have the chance to test their skills at pit stops as USMTS will set up a designated area for drivers to pit on lap 40. Drivers must stop at their pit stall. They will not be required to do anything, but they must stop. The way drivers come back onto the track is how they will line up. USMTS is going to chalk off twenty-four squares for drivers to pit and these pit areas will be auctioned off at intermission. All money generated for these pit stalls will go back into the A-main purse. Besides this race being 75 laps drivers will also be able to race without the roofs on their cars. This race will be called the Sound Room Topless 75. USMTS wanted to try something different on this night so this is about as extreme as you can get. This race was scheduled for the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, IA and was taken off their track schedule so instead of losing a north region race we thought we would try this. Also running on this night will be hobby stocks for $300 to win. At intermission we will start with the number 1 pit stall and drivers, fans or sponsors can bid on that pit stall for their favorite driver. 100% of the money will be put back into the payout that night. This race will be the first of a three-night swing. The next two nights the series will move to the Steele County Fair in Owatonna, MN. The Steele County Fair race will be two separate shows that will pay $2000 to win each night. Any driver that wants to be voted into the Gopher 50 race for modifieds in 2002 has to race at least one night of the fair.
