ABOUT MASON CITY MOTOR SPEEDWAY

After a difficult year that saw the track end its 2015 season abruptly, the landscape changed at the facility when lifelong Mason City resident and standout dirt modified racer Al Hejna became the new promoter of the dirt track located at the North Iowa Events Center, and the former I-35 Speedway got a new name in Mason City Motor Speedway.

Hejna’s son-in-law, Ryne Staley, became General Manager and co-promoter of the events at the facility, along with his father, Todd Staley, who owns and operates the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) and United States Racing Association (USRA).

After a failed sanctioning effort, years of poor track conditions and a dwindling car count and fans base, the USRA began sanctioning weekly racing at the track in 2016 as the new captains of the ship began offering some of the best weekly racing purses in the state of Iowa.

Today, the Staley family manage the day-to-day operations at the facility while Hejna has returned to the cockpit and focuses on running his multiple business in Clear Lake, Iowa,, alongside his brother and former racer Mike Hejna. Eventually, the track was reduced from the big half-mile oval to a racy high-banked 1/3-mile oval which continues to see improvements every week.

The Mason City Motor Speedway is a 1/3-mile clay oval located 5.1 miles east of I-35 at exit 194 on SR 122 (at the North Iowa Fairgrounds). For more information, call (515) 832-6000 or check out MasonCityMotorSpeedway.com. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
